Dr Javier PolaviejaBanco de Santander Professor of Sociology
Dr Javier Polavieja is Banco de Santander Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social Sciences at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. His main fields of research are: labour-market stratification; economic sociology; political sociology; and immigration research.
He earned his PhD in Sociology from Oxford University in 2001, and has held academic positions at Nuffield College-Oxford, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, the Juan March Institute, the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC), and IMDEA Social Sciences Institute.
His work has been published in leading international journals including, amongst others, the American Journal of Sociology, the European Sociological Review, Social Forces, Labour Economics, International Migration, the Socio-Economic Review and Social Indicators Research, as well as in the leading Spanish academic journals in the social sciences.
Polavieja is currently the Principal Investigator of the CALMA Project (Competition, Adaptation and Labour-Market Attainment of International Migrants in Europe), funded by the 6th National Plan for Scientific Research, Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.more at: javiergpolavieja.wix.com
