Dr Valentina Di Stasio

PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr Valentina Di Stasio (PhD) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre of Social Investigation at Nuffield College (University of Oxford). She uses harmonized experimental designs to study the importance that employers attach to race, gender, education and social capital when making hiring decisions. She is also interested in whether these micro-level decisions of employers vary across institutional and organizational contexts, and how these contextual factors may mitigate or exacerbate employment discrimination.

Before joining Nuffield College, Valentina was a postdoctoral researcher at WZB Berlin Social Science Centre and at the University of Amsterdam where, in 2014, she also obtained her doctoral degree. Her dissertation, titled “Why Education Matters to Employers – A Vignette Study in Italy, England and the Netherlands” received the “Best Dissertation of the Year” award from the European Consortium for Sociological Research. Selected findings from this research appeared in Social Forces and the European Sociological Review.
